"Center for Academic Excellence Two-Year (CAE2Y) Program"

CAE2Y is a new program established by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2010. To date there are 24 CAE2Y institutions. This small but effective CAE2Y community has a significant impact on community colleges nationally. How to attain the CAE2Y status? What does CAE2Y mean internally and externally? Why is it important? What support and assistance is available during the process? These and other questions will be answered during this session.

While the CAE designation existed for 13 years, the CAE2Y is very young. The first 6 community colleges received the CAE2Y designation during the June 2010 CISSE conference. Since then, 18 more institutions achieved this status. The CAE2Y requirements are a strong cybersecurity program and courseware mapped to two CNSS standards (4011 and one other). Dr. John Sands will describe some of the resources available to fulfill these requirements. the CAE2Y is an institutional rather than a programmatic designation. This is reflected in the 6 CAE2Y application criteria. How to successfully address these criteria will be described. The small, 24 institutionCAE2Y community provides support and resource to faculty within and outside of the community through sharing of curriculum models, professional development opportunities, and outreach models. The session participants will be invited to discuss the importance of the CAE2Y community to 2- and 4-year institutions nationally.
